Building Teacher Capacity:
The artifacts presented in this section represent my growth as an instructional leader during my internship. During the spring of 2021, my mentor tasked me with building teacher capacity. To do this, I implemented a summer book study to build teacher skill in supporting EL students in content classes. In the fall of 2021, my mentor asked me to select two teachers from the book study and serve as their mentor as they facilitiated professional development sessions about how they were using the content from the book study. Next, my mentor pushed me to drive change through courageous conversations. I met with my EL Lead to brainstorm how to increase student growth on the WIDA Access test. We worked with our executive principal to purchase a model assessment from WIDA and I piloted the program with my students in the spring of 2022. My students grew the most that year. This led to work with our new EL District Coach this fall to share what I have learned in EL PLCs.
